Coming soon from Magic the Gathering
This year is the kick off to the 30th Anniversary of Magic the Gathering and there is a whole heap of good stuff coming our ways in the not so distant future.
This first product isn't specifically a 30th anniversary product but it is something we have been looking forward to since it was announced. This is the first official instalment of the Universes Beyond series. We have a set of Commander decks that are all based around the futuristic universe of Warhammer 40,000. For anyone who doesn't know what Warhammer 40,000 is, or Warhammer itself. It is a tabletop game designed by Games Workshop and if you haven't played it, we would advise you to give it a go.
This release is going to be made up of 4 Commander decks with inspiration from a variety of different races from the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Currently we only know the names of the decks but we do have the face commander card for one of these.
Let us introduce you to Abaddon the Despoiler commander of The Ruinous Powers Commander deck. There will be a standard and collector's edition of these decks. The collector's edition does come with a collector's price tag but no doubt something that is worth having.
The first release from the 30th Anniversary year will be in the form of Dominaria United. We are returning to where it all began for Magic the Gathering and we are welcoming back some familiar faces along with what we are guessing to be some that we are not so looking forward to seeing.
The release date for Dominaria United is 9th September 2022 and we are very much looking forward to spoiler season which kicks off on 18th August. Along with the usual booster boxes that come with sets, Wizards of the Coast have decided to do things a little differently this time. The Theme Boosters are being replaced with what they are describing as set jumpstart. This is similar to the JumpStart stand alone that was released back in 2020 but the packs will all be themed around Dominaria United.
The second release following on from Dominaria United will be The Brother's War. This is where Magic the Gathering all began with the feud between two brothers, Mishra and Ursa, which eventually erupted into a huge war and left Dominaria looking the way it does today.
There has not been much more information released for The Brother's War at this stage but here are a few pieces of preview art and we know the release date is expected to be 18th November 2022.
JumpStart 2022 has also been announced with an anticipated release date 2nd December 2022. This is all the information we have on this upcoming release as well. All we know is that it is going to be something similar to the original JumpStart.
The final release we are going to talk about today is Unfinity. This was scheduled for release earlier this year but there were a few delays and this made Magic the Gathering postpone the release until later this year. We are now expecting this to be released around the same time as the Universes Beyond Warhammer 40,000 Commander decks so we should have this for sale on or around 7th October 2022.
